Local Products
Koh Samui is a Shopping Paradise with the stores and stalls on the roads. Many of the larger beaches have vendors offering items for sale, giving the visitor the opportunity to shop and work on their tan at the same time!
Coconuts -- Koh Samui is often refered to as the Coconut Island because over two MILLION coconuts are shipped to Bangkok each month! Drive any of the roads on this island and you will find trucks loaded with coconuts. Shops offer products made from coconut shells and coconut wood.
Furniture -- Furniture is made locally on Koh Samui. You can find items made of Wicker, Banboo, Rattan and other local materials. The workmanship is good and the furniture is very sturdy. Examples of the furniture can be found in most bars, restaurants and resorts.
Wood Carving -- The Thai people have patience and are detail oriented. This is illustrated in the carvings produced on Koh Samui. There are shops where you can observe the carvers at work. Others sell their goods on the side of the roads. For some reason large American Indian carvings are popular here.
Souvenirs -- Goodies to take back home can be found almost everywhere on Koh Samui. The number of T-Shirt shops is amazing alone. You can find items made from sea-shells and coconut wood. Carved Soap Flowers are offered in a number of colors and designs. There is at least one big shop selling island souvenirs.
